Children At Play
2.44 x 4m
2024
Painted during the Great Exhibition Road festival and put together by Imperial College in partnership with PaintLab.
The idea of the painting was inspired by a conversation with Dr. Alekos Simoni from Imperial College who works on the Target Malaria project and research. The piece is called ‘Children at play’ and pays homage to Stephen Pusey’s 1980s mural of the same name. It celebrates the innocence of childhood, while also highlighting the vulnerability of young children in tropical and sub-tropical regions where malaria, transmitted by infected female Anopheles mosquitoes, remains a significant threat.
It was an eye opener to meet so many men in the 50s from all over the world who had such fond memories of playing marbles in their childhood.
